So . . . I could tell you that Zach got this black eye when I accidentally elbowed him in the face while we were at the movies and I really wanted the popcorn bucket and he wouldn't give it to me because I like to eat all the gummy bears we dump in there because I love the divine salty/sweet taste that accompanies such delicious culinary delights . . .but that would be lying. Really, someone else elbowed him during early morning basketball. Zach just LIKED to tell everyone I punched him so he could get sympathy. We all know that couldn't be true, though, because even as a kid I was afraid that if I hit someone they would hit me back a lot harder. (*cough* "Can you say wimp?") I know. I know.

Lost in Translation
What I say: OK, kiddos. It's time to get ready for scriptures and prayer.
What they hear: It's time to stop every fun thing you've ever done in your life and slink into the living room and melt onto the floor with tears and frustration and tell me how extremely tired you are and how you can't do scriptures and prayer because you are about to collapse from exhaustion RIGHT NOW.

Family Journal: Everyday Life
In an effort to record the mundane as well as the exciting adventures, here's our first official family journal entry:
Nothing much going on. Zach's in AZ til tonight, enjoying the beautiful weather down there. (Well, as much as you can enjoy the weather while you are in a school all day.) I've been doing the same old, same old: cleaning, mothering, exercising, reading, etc. My goal this week is to tell my kids that I love them more often. So far, so good.
Lucy had strep last weekend and is feeling better after 3 days of antibiotics. She is very pleasant, even when sick, so I was a little bit sad to see her go back to school today:) She was excited to be back into the swing of things, though her throat still hurts a bit. She has a make-up piano lesson this afternoon and has a basketball game on Saturday morning. (I'm still hoping the kids take after their dad when it comes to agility and ability in sports. Here's hoping.)
Kye was a little under the weather this weekend, too, but was able to go to school this week. It's probably a good thing because when he doesn't have a structured schedule, he gets a little cuh-razy! He is funny and silly and so, so very tease-y. He and Isaac still have that brotherly magnetism that brings their bodies together in some sort of physical force every time they are in the same room as one another. There's a lot of "accidental" hitting, kicking, punching, pinky-pulling, head-bonking fun in our house. There's also a lot of kindness, playing, sharing, friendliness and game-playing in our house. The mood seems to shift every 5 seconds.
Isaac is enjoying pre-school and is learning to read. He is currently on the first set of "BOB" books and can read things like, "Mac has a cat." It's awesome. He likes to run around and play with cars, light-sabers, his castle set, blocks, trains and everything and anything else that will allow him to stretch his imagination. I've rarely heard, "I'm bored" from that kid. His greatest challenges in life are sitting still for more than 30 seconds at a time, and sitting next to Zach or I without laying his body across us in some way or another. It's not so bad at home, but causes some trouble at church, as we don't have that kind of room on a pew.
Adam--oh--Adam. He loves to read and will drag me or Lucy or Kye into his room to read one of his books. His current favorites are "Wocket in my Pocket" and the "Elephant and Piggie" books (which happen to be some of my favorites, too.) He is obsessed with puzzles and does at least 14 a day, usually the same ones over and over and over and . . . well, you get the picture. He loves to tag along behind his siblings and usually has a great big grin on his face. He will only eat peanut butter crackers, cereal and oranges, and turns his nose up at almost anything else. It's a pain. I did get him to take a bit of noodles a week or so ago and it was an unqualified success in my book. He talks nonstop. I kid you not. "I woke up anen (and then) I wed a book anen I ate a sneeack anen I watts Dowa and Boots anen I did puzzuhs."
All in all, we're just going along with our daily lives, having good days and bad, enjoying what we can, and forgetting the rest.
p.s. Will wonders never cease? I think Isaac actually fell asleep during rest time.

Trip to Temple Square
Remember this experience here? Here's visual proof that it actually happened. (I could include a copy of our $2500+ bill, but I'll spare you.)

Christmas Around the World
For Lucy's birthday a few months ago, Zach and I gave her tickets to see "Christmas Around the World" at BYU. We took her out to the Creamery on 9th beforehand and then thoroughly enjoyed the 50th anniversary celebration of "Christmas Around the World."
Our favorites were the American clogging, the something-something Filipino dances, the finale dance from the Ukraine, and seeing Sister Williams from our ward playing the violin with the folk music group. Supah-fun. As you will soon see, I am very good and remembering to bring my camera and taking a few pictures before putting it away and forgetting I have it with me. Fortunately, I am also very good at finding, borrowing, and posting pictures found online. Stinking awesome, I know!

Tell Tale Signs Your Baby is Growing Up
- He builds ships out of Legos and flies them around the house making gutteral engine noises.
- He pretends. ("Mom, wook! I'n a puppy--woof, woof!)
- He sings (ahhhhhhhs?) along with "O Holy Night" and the "Hallelujah Chorus."
- He looks like a big kid in the nursery.
- He comes out of time out saying, "I'n done cwying, mom."
- He climbs into his crib at night and says, "Good night, mom. I want watuh and a book."
- He dances and sings, "Shake your body like a baby cwab."
- He amuses himself for hours doing puzzles. ("This one goes here. This one? Nooooooo, it goes here."
Bittersweet, I tell you.

Top Ten--December 2009
Anxiously awaited. Long anticipated. (I vaguely remember using this intro before for one of these.)
10—M: When did that happen? Just the other day?
I: No. It was the day before the other day.
Ahhhh, yes. Crystal clear.
9—Scary, scary sounds that sent Adam running for cover with his hands over his ears: a tractor passing by, the vacuum, a copy machine, “O Holy Night” by Josh Groban.
8—Semi-successful choir concert attendance. It was successful in that we attended. “Semi” because neither Adam nor Isaac sat . . . at all . . . the entire time. And they didn’t listen to any of the songs. And they screamed in laughing terror every time I got close enough to snag one of them. Needless to say, we left as soon as L & K were done singing.
7—The seemingly-mandatory December crazies that hit the house every year: kids screaming and fighting and kicking and punching and whining enough to kill a person. Two words: we survived.
6—I: I-am-a-robot
M: Oh! I am the mom robot and I’m telling you it’s time for you to go in your room for quiet time.
I: But-I-am-a-robot-and-I-don’t-have-a-mom-or-a-dad-or-brothers-or-sisters.
M: Okay, you are a robot and I am a robot maker—your robot maker—and I’m telling you it’s quiet time.
I: Oh, man! (heading to his room)
5—L: I made a rule that you can only throw a snowball at someone’s face if it was an accident, not if it’s on purpose.
4—Christmas traditions abound: Light of Christ FHE with friends, BYU bookstore fun on Christmas Eve, reading a scripture and Christmas story almost every night in December, attending the ward Christmas party, ornaments, making and eating fudge and Christmas cookies, playing games and seeing the lights at Temple Square.
3— Surprise! Oh what fun it was to drive away from all the snow, hey! Thanks to my generous family, we were able to borrow a van and show up in AZ for the week after Christmas. We played lots of games, had picnics, stayed with several different family members, made lots of yummy food, went 4 wheeling, made some crafts and did a little shopping. My favorite, aside from seeing family, of course, was our Friday and Saturday of 70+ beautiful degrees. It was so nice we didn’t leave until mid afternoon on Saturday, and didn’t get home till 1 a.m. Soooooooo worth it.
2—Blown fuse=lots of fun chatting. Somehow we broke the radio for the drive home from AZ and had to fill our time with (*gasp*) conversation. We asked “what do you remember” questions, talked about a several items of interest, a few books, where we would like to live someday, etc. Eight hours into the trip, Zach suggested I try to get some rest. Concerned, I suggested we keep talking to keep him awake. “Ummmmmm,” he said, “It’s just that my head is KILLING me.” ‘Nough said. (I got a good couple hours sleep.)
1—Spending Christmas Eve celebrating with family and friends that we love. Spending Christmas Day together as a family, enjoying our gifts given and received, and our time remembering that as we celebrate the birth of a Babe, we are celebrating the Savior’s life and His mission on the Earth.
