I meant to post a follow up to Isaac and Weston's display of creative masculinity, but that whole Christmas thing kept me busy for a few days there.
Isaac and Weston play very well together. In fact, Rachel (Weston's mom) and I were saying JUST THE DAY BEFORE how pleasant it was they keep each other entertained and how much fun they have together. A few minutes after they went downstairs to play, Isaac starting crying and came to the bottom of the stairs. I stood at the top and asked what had happened. He cried as he came up the stairs, "My foot. Owwwww. Mom, don't go downstairs. Okay? I'll come up, okay? Don't go downstairs." He's not old enough yet to realize those words were the death knell of his fun. I paused to notice the 4 cuts he had on the bottom of one foot and then ran down to the family room. "!!!!!!!!!!!!" I thought. "What were you THINKING?" I asked. Isaac's bottom lip started quivering. Weston just repeated, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry? Sorry? I'm sorry? I'M SORRY!"
As the boys sat on the couch while I cleaned up the mess, two thoughts kept running through my head: (1) Thank GOODNESS they hadn't done it at Rachel's house. Her trees are so very beautiful and full of ornaments they would have been picking glass up out of the carpet for the rest of my lifetime. (Of course, later I found out that Rachel's ornaments are all shatterproof, so I needn't have worried.) (2) Man, that had to have been fun for them. I mean, doesn't it LOOK like it was fun? They didn't like getting in trouble, but I guarantee you they had the time of their lives while they did it.
In case you were wondering, they not only smashed the ornaments they could reach that hung on the tree, they threw their bats up into the tree to knock down the higher ornaments and they smashed them once they hit the ground. If nothing else, I'm proud to say that they are thorough children.

Buddies
Yeah, they had me fooled too. They made a little arithmetical discovery while playing together at my house the other day. We'll call it, oh . . . say, the mathematics of mischief. It goes a little something like this:
+
=
and
AND
Maybe they'll be awarded the Fields medal for their stunning analysis. I'll keep you posted.

Super Secret Butter Recipe
As per requested by one faithful friend, here is the butter recipe. (Though I'm not sure it qualifies as a recipe because it only has one ingredient.) So, instead, let's say here are the instructions for making butter:
Take 1 pt. of whipping cream. Put it in a quart jar. Shake it.
That's it, folks. You have to keep it moving for about 30-45 minutes, so we took turns shaking it. We had the kids turn on some dance music and they shook it while they danced. About 40 minutes later, there was a lump of butter in the bottom of the jar, surrounded by bluish looking buttermilk. Zach dumped out the buttermilk, fished out the butter and put it into a nice serving dish. He added just a little salt to give it flavor. We used it on our fresh rolls and it was fabulous.

Flashback Friday
633-4472. My very first phone number. We had it till I was 5 years old. I have no idea why I still remember it.

Top Ten--November 2008 (Episode 2)
Back to the highly anticipated second episode of this month's top ten.
5--Second grade soap opera day 2:
L: This morning we were talking about what we wanted to be when we grow up and Conner said he wanted to be a teacher and an explorer. Then he said, “When I grow up, I’m going to be Mr. R. and SHE (pointing at me!!) is going to be Mrs. R.” Mrs. J laughed so hard. It was sooooo embarrassing.
4--I: I don’t want grumbled egg.
D: Do you mean scrambled egg?
I: Yeah, I don’t want scrumbled egg. I want a fwat egg.
3--Second grade soap opera, day 3—
L: Brynlie asked Conner why he likes me.
M: What did he say?
L: He said I have a cute sense of humor.
2--Isaac the blamer. He blames for everything. Specifically, he blames ME for everything. “Mom, you just made my sandwich fall.” “Mom, you just made me hurt my arm.” “Mom, you just made my pinkie toe get caught under the door, even though you are 20 feet away, behind 2 closed doors, and talking on the phone while putting on your shoes.” It almost ties with his “deafness on demand” ability.
1--K:(walking in the door from school) “MOM! You cut your hair!”
M: Yep! Do you like it?
K: Not really . . . . I think it’s the worst thing I ever saw.
Later: After telling Z the funny story, Z said, "Kye, Kye, Kye. You NEVER say that to a woman. If she asks you if you like her haircut, you ALWAYS say, ‘Wow! I really like it. It looks cute.” (Would it surprise you to know that is EXACTLY what Z said 10 minutes earlier when he saw my hair? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.)

Top Ten--November 2008 (Episode 1)
Back at it again. Time for the top ten and I'm ready to share. I'll give you numbers 6-10 right now. Why, you ask? I'm a slow writer, I answer. Well, that and I'm slightly embarrassed at how stinking wordy I am with the top tens. This isn't the first time I've said this, and it definitely won't be the last, but I can't seem to edit myself while writing. Seriously, ANY volunteers to be my editor? Didn't think so. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
10-Lucy's unintentional LeVar Burton imitation. "Kye, that’s a really good book. So you just keep reading it and let your imagination SOAR!"
9-I: When I gwow up I want to be a wocketman . . . NO! When I gwow up I want to be a tiguh or a bear.
D: You can’t be a tiger. You’re a boy.
I: (Sigh) Daddy, there are boy tiguhs.
8-Adam’s future career based on current interests: human tornado or garbage man. I’ve already documented his ability to search and destroy the house. He now throws everything he finds of interest in the garbage. I wasn’t quite prepared for this step and haven’t been looking in the trash before I take it out. So far we’re down all of the pieces to his Leap Frog Farm Magnetic Set, the remote to my IPOD dock, and I’m pretty sure a Barney board book from the library that I can't find anywhere.
7--Second Grade Soap Opera, Day 1
L: Mom, today Conner asked, “Do you wanna be my girlfriend, toots?”
M: What did you say?
L: I said, “Ummmm, no thanks."
M: Good answer. Good answer.
6-My failure as marketer extraordinaire for the kiddos. Lucy invented a snow scooter for a class project and I had the brilliant idea of calling it a Snooter. It just “sings,” you know? Lucy hated the name and was so embarrassed every time I said it. Whatever. You win some, you lose some. Kye made some punch for Thanksgiving dinner and I introduced it as “Kye’s Punch-in-the-gut.” Not appetizing, I know, but still had a great ring. NOPE! Kye was mortified by the name and refused to use it. I guess you lose some, and then you lose some more.

Odds and Ends
Random facts, observations, and notes for the day:
1) It's time for another check up at the optometrist. Every year I keep hoping that maybe THIS will be the year my eyesight stops changing. It has to be consistent before I can look into Lasik. Turns out this ISN'T the year. Everything has been fuzzy for the past several months and I'm finally ready to do something about it. With a prescription of -10.0 and -10.5 I'm not sure how much worse it can get. Well . . . I could be blind and that would be worse. So, never mind.
2) Baby Einstein has been a lifesaver over the past few days. Adam's breathing is not-so-hotso and he needs several treatments a day. We found out he likes Baby Einstein and we pop in a video every time he needs a treatment. Viola! My life is 95.9% easier.
3) I'm done decorating for Christmas. Well, except for the family Christmas tree downstairs, and we'll do that together tomorrow night. I'm also trying to get my Christmas shopping done by the end of the week. Hahaha! Never going to happen, but a person can dream.
4) Book club. My house. Thursday at 8:30. Pride and Prejudice. Come if you've read it. But tell me if you are coming, because I want to make enough treats.
5) I have four loads of laundry to fold.
