Top Five-March 2008

Just a few days shy of the end of April, I have finished my MARCH top ten. I now consider myself officially caught up. Stay tuned for a regular April Top Ten, coming soon. Enjoy the top five things seen and heard at the homestead (or in the car, where many many fun and amusing things have tickled our funny bones.)

5—Lucy: Mom, Adam is the laughingest boy I’ve ever seen.

4—Kye: (setting up Sorry to play with me)—I’m gonna beat you. Then I’m gonna chomp you up. (thinking) Then I would only have a dad.
Me: Do you only want a dad?
Kye: Kind of, cause then I could play the Wii all the time. And I wish I didn’t have a sister or a little brother either, except a baby brother, because then he could watch me play.
Me: Soooo glad to know you’d miss us, little man.

3—Lucy lost her homework one day, after which followed a desperate but fruitless search. Isaac came running in to save the day, “I know I know! Maybe it blew away and then a giant comed to eat it!”

2—My kids love to draw. Isaac has taken up the pastime and the following conversation ensued: Isaac: I’m drawing a wion. You wike wions, Kye?
Kye: No. They’re scary. They would eat you.
Isaac: Ohhhhhh. I wike wions.
(Incidentally, Isaac has trouble with a few of his sounds, including the letter “V,” which he always pronounces, “B.” After watching “The Letter Factory” one day, he said, “Mom, come listen to my bowel sounds!” No thanks, Zeeky. No thanks.)

1—Props to Lucy’s friend Ethan for providing our #1 this month. While driving to school one day, Ethan informed us, “My grandma works at the hospital, helping people when their babies get hatched.” (His mom later told me that although Ethan’s grandma IS indeed a nurse, she neither helps with labor and delivery NOR works in the hospital.) Man, I love that kid.

I love Utah!

It's snowing today. I love, love, love the beautiful state of Utah. Sometimes it tries my patience, though.

p.s. I hope the email was intended for me. He's never called me "honey" in all his living days. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Top Five--February 2008

5--Compliments to my niece, Sarah, for the following:
SarahL:“I would never, EVER go to Springville High School, because they are the ‘Devils.’”
Me: Where are you going to go to high school, then?
SarahL: Hmmmmmmmmm. I think maybe High School Musical.
Yep, you and every other girl between the age of 8-14.

4--Adam starting solids: all of the other kids seem to be handling it okay. Back in the day when Isaac started solids, Kye yarfed every time he watched Isaac eat. Not kidding. Sooooooooo glad we’re past that now.

3-- Isaac will only eat green beans by opening them, eating the seeds first, then the shell. It’s very labor intensive. Dinner lasts for hours. . . and hours.

2--Kye: Is this strawberry yogurt made out of pig?

1--Lucy LOVES to read. That shouldn’t be a surprise . . . I am her mother after all. Every day she’s inspired to start a new business that she’s read about in a book. (I mean, c’mon, how many of you wanted to start a babysitting business when reading “The Babysitter’s Club”?) Her latest idea, based on the Jigsaw Jones series: A detective service. While cleaning through her notebook, I found the following:

Looks like she's on her way. My little girl is growing up, solving all the mysteries in our house and neighborhood. Watch out world, here she comes!

Back by popular demand. . . I've had at least--ahem--one whole person request another top ten. So here's to you, Erin. Hope it gives you a good break from studying. Good luck on finals. FYI, I'm catching up from the last few months, so it'll be a top five for each month. It would be way, way too much to think of doing more than that. (And it'll take a day or two to do them all).

So without further ado . . . Top Five things seen and heard in the Bradshaw house--January 2008

5—Lucy: I like Gpa Ron because he’s good making things on the oven—you know, like breakfast, lunch & dinner. And you know, he also makes it fun.

4- Isaac: Mom, what you makin’?
Me: I’m making grilled cheese sandwiches.
Isaac: Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh! I wanted boy cheese, not girled cheese!

3- I suspected Zach would watch just about anything on tv (except perhaps Jane Austen). I was proven correct when I found him in front of his 50 inch plasma watching play by play of the Iowa caucus. (Open nostril, insert finger.) I have never seen anything more boring. I asked him if he was ready for bed. His response, “I’ll be up in a minute. I want to see how this turns out.” Yeah, what a nail biter. **NOTE TO THE PUBLIC**I’ve since found that there are many (or at least one other person on the planet) who enjoy watching the Iowa caucus results. I really feel, however, that if you can enjoy this, a little Jane Austen isn’t going to kill you.

2- Kye loves to talk about going on a mission. I knew I had a little explaining to do when I heard, "I can’t wait until I’m a missionary. When I’m that, will I pass the bread and water to myself?" Rest assured, he now knows the difference between a deacon and a missionary.

1- After hearing Adam coo at me, Lucy observed, “He’s growing to like you as much as he likes me, mom!”

Kye's birthday

If you guessed ninja bowling you got it right. Props to my sister Camille for making the cakes. It was "aweshum," as Kye would say.

Moab

For the first two days of our Spring Break, we took a quick trip down to Moab for some hiking. It was spectacular. I won't mention the not so spectacular event of coming home from 83 degrees to snow today. I KNOW. Snow in the middle of April. That in itself isn't unusual here. What is unusual is that it has been snowing off and on all month and we're getting MORE snow next week. Whatever. If the kids didn't have school next week I'd be road tripping down to AZ. But I digress . . . back to Moab. Hiking to the Windows

The famed Delicate Arch--Utah's unofficial landmark (the one on all the liscence plates). I'm shocked. . . SHOCKED, I tell you, that the kids made it. It was 1.5 miles . . . one way . . . almost straight up . . . pulling a 3 year old and dragging a 5 year old up the last 1/2 mile. But we made it and walked over to the arch for some pictures. Lucy's aside to Zach as we got to the Arch: "I CANNOT believe we hiked all the way up here just to see this."

If I Had a Million Dollars

Isaac brought my purse to me yesterday. "Mom, will you give me a million dollars?"

"Uhhh, no, son."

Kye piped up, "Isaac, she doesn't even have a million dollars, huh, mom?" And then, after some serious thought, Kye concluded, "But if I had a million dollars, I'd buy a pumpkin."

Okay --now you can really tell which one is which. It doesn't help that I have no pics of Isaac between 5 months and 10 months to try to compare to. It took us awhile to pick out a new camera after ours got dropped into a certain lake in SD in August 2005. (Don't worry, Katie, we've totally forgotten about it.) Just kidding:-)
