In an effort to record the mundane as well as the exciting adventures, here's our first official family journal entry:
Nothing much going on. Zach's in AZ til tonight, enjoying the beautiful weather down there. (Well, as much as you can enjoy the weather while you are in a school all day.) I've been doing the same old, same old: cleaning, mothering, exercising, reading, etc. My goal this week is to tell my kids that I love them more often. So far, so good.
Lucy had strep last weekend and is feeling better after 3 days of antibiotics. She is very pleasant, even when sick, so I was a little bit sad to see her go back to school today:) She was excited to be back into the swing of things, though her throat still hurts a bit. She has a make-up piano lesson this afternoon and has a basketball game on Saturday morning. (I'm still hoping the kids take after their dad when it comes to agility and ability in sports. Here's hoping.)
Kye was a little under the weather this weekend, too, but was able to go to school this week. It's probably a good thing because when he doesn't have a structured schedule, he gets a little cuh-razy! He is funny and silly and so, so very tease-y. He and Isaac still have that brotherly magnetism that brings their bodies together in some sort of physical force every time they are in the same room as one another. There's a lot of "accidental" hitting, kicking, punching, pinky-pulling, head-bonking fun in our house. There's also a lot of kindness, playing, sharing, friendliness and game-playing in our house. The mood seems to shift every 5 seconds.
Isaac is enjoying pre-school and is learning to read. He is currently on the first set of "BOB" books and can read things like, "Mac has a cat." It's awesome. He likes to run around and play with cars, light-sabers, his castle set, blocks, trains and everything and anything else that will allow him to stretch his imagination. I've rarely heard, "I'm bored" from that kid. His greatest challenges in life are sitting still for more than 30 seconds at a time, and sitting next to Zach or I without laying his body across us in some way or another. It's not so bad at home, but causes some trouble at church, as we don't have that kind of room on a pew.
Adam--oh--Adam. He loves to read and will drag me or Lucy or Kye into his room to read one of his books. His current favorites are "Wocket in my Pocket" and the "Elephant and Piggie" books (which happen to be some of my favorites, too.) He is obsessed with puzzles and does at least 14 a day, usually the same ones over and over and over and . . . well, you get the picture. He loves to tag along behind his siblings and usually has a great big grin on his face. He will only eat peanut butter crackers, cereal and oranges, and turns his nose up at almost anything else. It's a pain. I did get him to take a bit of noodles a week or so ago and it was an unqualified success in my book. He talks nonstop. I kid you not. "I woke up anen (and then) I wed a book anen I ate a sneeack anen I watts Dowa and Boots anen I did puzzuhs."
All in all, we're just going along with our daily lives, having good days and bad, enjoying what we can, and forgetting the rest.
p.s. Will wonders never cease? I think Isaac actually fell asleep during rest time.
