June 14, 2011

With the new kid still being, well, new, we figured we'd wait on an anniversary trip until this winter sometime.  So to celebrate 15 awesome years of marriage, Zach and I spent the evening at the Provo Temple.  We had a wonderful, peaceful time there.  Yay for the temple!

You know what was super awesome?  We had a smudge on the camera lens for about 3 weeks before I realized it was there and wiped it off.  Even more awesome?  It was right in the center of the lens, so every picture we have from June looks a little something like this:

Oh well.  You live and learn, right?  After the temple, we ate at my current favorite restaurant, La Jolla Groves.  If you're local and haven't had a chance to eat there yet, try it out.  You're welcome.

Rye-Guy and Zeeky-Boy

Otherwise known as Toothless 1 and 2:

Adamy Schmadamy

This kid got every cold, flu and bronchial bug  that came around this winter and spring.  He also got pneumonia just after Eli was born.  Luckily, he kept himself occupied during his many, many breathing treatments.

When he's good, he's very VERY good. And when he is bad . . . Adam's an "all or nothing" sort of kid.  He can be having the best time in the world and then one little thing doesn't go his way.  He immediately pulls out the crocodile tears and we hear, "This is a bad, BAD day!" about 17 times, until he gets over it.  Fun stuff:)  Don't believe me?  Observe:

Wherein Adam is furious that there is no cheese pizza left for him to eat for lunch after church:
Wherein mom and dad tell Adam that though there is no cheese pizza left, there are a few slices of pepperoni:
Wherein dad tells Adam that he would be happy to pull the pepperoni off the pizza to make it a slice of cheese:

Happy, happy Adam running down the slip-n-slide:
 The "rear" view:
The epitomy of "cool" according to Schmadams:

He provides our entertainment pretty much 24/7.  That would be because he never stops talking.  (Except when he's sick.  We had a pretty quiet spring.)
For instance, the other day I said, "(Insert a certain child's name here, which I will not list so as not to incriminate the guilty), please stop whining.  No one wants to listen to you when you whine!"
Adam said, "I do!"
Me again, "You want to hear him whine?"
Adam: "Yes, because then I can spank his bum."

Whatev.  Love this kid.

Lucy's Luck

Approximately 1 week into summer vacation, Lucy came running in the door with tears in her eyes, and her arm looking like this:

Now, you and I both know that that is NOT what arms are supposed to look like.  (Unless you are Harry Potter and Professor Lockhart removed all the bones from your arm instead of mending them.  And we are definitely all muggles here.)  Obviously it was pretty darn painful, though, because Lucy fainted as my friend was helping her out to the car while I was getting Eli in his carseat.  Scared the snot out of me, as I've never seen anyone faint before.  After leaning back in the car with a cold washcloth on her head for a few minutes, she came around and we went to the doctor.  We ended up seeing the doctor I'm not too fond of and I just prayed it would be an okay experience.  I wasn't even shooting for great, just okay.  And it was okay.  So, Lucy got herself one of these babies:
Fortunately, she was old enough to keep her wrist pretty still, so the doc let her keep it in a brace for 4 weeks instead of casting it.

Just a few weeks later, we were getting ready for our trip to SD when Luc told me her throat was hurting a ton.  After another quick trip to the doctor, we found out she had strep throat.  Antibiotics picked up in time for us to leave the next day.

On the way to SD, we stopped at a fabulously fun Fairfield Inn in Gillette, WY.  They had a pool with 2 waterslides, a lazy river, and a kid's splash area.  After coming down one of the slides, Lucy had her eyes closed and ran into the step.  With her nose.  Yowzers.

No blood, but a pretty painful looking bruise on the bridge of her nose and around her eyes.

Once we got to SD, she had a bad couple of days until the antibiotics really kicked in.  Despite that, she was out in Gma and Gpa's pool every second that I would let her.  2 days before we came back, she got to take her brace off.  1 day before we came back, she finished the antibiotic.  1 day after we got back, she started complaining that her ear was killing her.  Trip #3 to the doctor revealed she had a pretty bad case of swimmer's ear.  6 days on an antibiotic eardrop helped clear that one up.

So we were sitting at dinner the other day and Lucy asked, "Mom, how come we have hardly been swimming at ALL this summer?"  Ummmmmmmm.

The New Kid

He's not so new anymore. He's almost 4 months old. 4 MONTHS OLD, PEOPLE! And I've posted maybe two pictures of him since he got home from the hospital. If you remember what my other boys looked like as babies, you already know what Eli looks like, but I figured I'd post a few pics anyway.

Just after delivery:
 About 1 week old:
So tiny here that the bottle was bigger than his face:
About three weeks old, with siblings and Gma T:
 At about a month old:

Almost 1 month:
(I couldn't figure out what Isaac was doing in this picture until I realized I'd told him not to breathe on the baby.  So he was holding his breath)

Almost 1 month:

1 1/2 months old, next to Adam:

About 2 1/2 months old with pouty lips and chubby cheeks:

2 1/2 months:
 Three months:
3 months: trying to find his thumb:
3 months: with Gpa Ron in SD
3 1/2 months old, looking very similar to boys 1, 2, and 3:

We love our little man!  He'll cuddle when he's asleep, but when he's awake, he wants to be out facing the world.  And even then he doesn't sit in my arms.  He holds his legs straight and his head up, like he's trying to stand up.  He's starting to giggle when we tickle him.  (But really, it sounds like a painful little cry for help, "Please stop tickling me, stop, STOP!"  He'll coo every once in awhile and he loves to look at faces.  He's a sweet little guy and we're thankful that "Eli, eli-oh" came to our home!

Summer Schmummer

I feel a little bit like summer has taunted us with its brevity.  Seriously, where has it gone?  We usually go to SD at the end of July, as kind of a cap to our summer vacation.  When we get back, it's back to school mode.  This summer we went at the end of June so we could get back for my little bro's July wedding.  With our SD trip and the wedding behind us now, it feels like school is just around the corner.  Not quite ready for that.  I'm always behind on this here little blog, so I figured I'd take a few days to play catch up.  Here goes nothing.
