Top Ten--July 2008

10—“The trick to a good marriage is good peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.” Succinctly said, David.

9—I came across Kye, examining his big toe quite closely for a few minutes. He finally looked up and asked, “Mom, is this my thumb toe?”

8—Isaac’s (sadly brief) infatuation with Captain Moroni. He came running out of his room one Sunday morning, sword swinging wildly. “Look, mom, I’m Captain Moroni.” He wanted to be called Cpt. Moroni, dress up like him for Halloween, and to take his sword wherever we went. We used it to our advantage. “Pretend that you are Cpt. Moroni just before he attacks the enemy. He is super quiet.” It kept Isaac silent for approximately 20 minutes during sacrament meeting. We’ll take it.

7—Our new family chore: keeping Adam entertained during his treatments. Everyone who is in our home at the time of the treatment gets involved: the kids, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents. His preference seems to be dancing, though he also likes the “Adam, Adam, Adam” song and cartwheels, too.

6—As Lucy was shivering in the 74 degree weather after her swimming lesson, I heard nine words I never imagined I would hear from my child. “Mom, it looks like yesterday was a weather breeder.” Her assessment was correct, but she’s 7 for crying out loud. Thank you, Box Car Children. Apparently your books are good for something.

5—Our July 4th celebration.

4—Another enlightening discussion during scripture study.
Me: What would you do if someone teased you for believing in Jesus?
L: I would walk away or ignore them.
K: I would just leave.
I: I would fight them and kill them. (Perhaps a little TOO much desire to use the sword in defense of religion??)

3—Our little Adam man is growing up. His top teeth are coming in, he’s standing up and walking along the furniture, he’s babbling and screeching like a pro, and he’s dived heart and soul into temper tantruming. He usually reserves it for the kids when they are trying to play with him and end up invading his personal space, but we’ve also seen it come out during treatments, long car trips, meals, and every SINGLE diaper change.

2—32!! More about that later.

1—Without a doubt, our trip to SD. But since I plan on spending another entire post on that, I’ll substitute it with Lucy’s plaintive wish. “I wish that we lived with a circus. Then we could travel on a train.” Though there are no trains in sight, I often feel like her wish is fulfilled every day.
