This week, for posterity's sake, share with us a school memory from your own childhood. What is your earliest memory of school, what did you love about the first week of school, who was your favorite teacher, subject, or playground game?
I'm not sure if I have a terrible memory or if my memories are terrible and I have purposefully blocked them out. Just kidding. Hmmmmmmmm, my earliest memory of school was that my Kindergarten teacher's name was Mrs. Browning. I thought it was Mrs. Brownie for a long time because brownies were my favorite treats.
The thing I remember most about the first week of school was the weaher. It would be a little chilly in the morning and it would feel like fall was really on its way. I remember riding the bus every day. Warm coat+sun beating through the windows+reading a book during the long drive=unpleasant carsickness. Blech. To this day the smell of diesel makes me nauseous.
Aside from the bus rides, however, I was always being excited to go back to school. The first week of my senior year was interesting because I had flown in from Korea the day before school started and I had some major jetlag.
My favorite subject by far was history--a small miracle, considering every single history teacher I had until college was unbelievably boring. My next favorite subject was English. I also enjoyed Physics, Chemistry, and Geography. Math of all types was okay, but not my very favorite. I hated biology, though it provided some amusing jokes amongst my friends. (Our biology teacher got cancer early in the year. Our biology sub, who also happened to be a bus driver, told us that when a woman ovulated, her body was temporarily paralyzed when her egg dropped into her fallopian tube. Huh!?!?)
My favorite playground game was Chinese jumprope. In, out, side, side, on, in, out, anyone?
That's as far as I will delve for tonight. Be thankful, people.
