Tuesday Tell All

Topic: Smell
Freshly baked bread, citrusy orange, bacon frying, the streets of New York, white ginger handsoap, iron-filled water, car exhaust, mangoes, and a million other things I can't remember right now. Each and every smell has the proud distinction of making me yarf while pregnant. After pregnancy #1, I learned to always breathe slowly through my mouth when entering a new place, until I could check it out and see if my stomach could handle the smell of the place. It didn't always work--like the time I was visiting my sister in NYC while prego with #2. All the shops vented the air back into the streets. The first time we went around the corner from her apartment, the Polish butcher shop sent a blast of stinky air up into the street. I wasn't prepared. It wasn't pretty. Enough said.

Oh my gosh! That was so funny! I can only say this because it happened to me early on when we lived in that neighborhood (as I was pregnant when we moved there). I began instinctively holding my breath when I passed that shop, and I didn't think to tell you till afterward (though in my defense I didn't know you were pregnant!) Good times...
