Creativity

To thwart or not to thwart? That is the question. After dinner, the kids ran down to play for a few minutes before bed. Upon finding a hole in one of the couch pillows, they discovered the delightful fun of playing with fluff. They panicked when they heard me coming downstairs--apparently I am a little too quick at getting annoyed with such shennanigans. Darn that innate desire for a perfectly ordered house! (Which, by the way, is so often unfulfilled, one would wonder that I even have it anymore.)

So after asking what they were pretending (the fluff was ice cream), I asked them to clean it up when they were done, and I left the room with a firmer resolve to allow them more creative expression. Because really, who wouldn't want to play in a room full of fluff? (And, let's just be honest, I've always hated couch pillows. They just get in the way of everything. The majority of the time I've had them, they've been stuffed into closets. Good riddance, couch pillows!)

Oh such a nice mom. At that point I would have melted down and just sent them all to bed (though I do let them have some creative license). PS. Adam is a very cute baby. I can't wait to meet him!

It has taken me a couple of weeks to catch up on posts. We loved the reunion and the fun, thanks for hosting! Sounds like the 4th was fun as well. About most recent posts, I constantly have to remind myself that they are kids and even though I would rather them not be making a mess, etc. Someday, and all too soon I won't need to tell them! Love you all...

I thought of this post this morning when Dylan came down to go to work with me dressed in his GI Joe costume. I chose not to thwart . . . today.

Sarah, you are a writer. Just reading this made me think of a scene in a book. I'm waiting for one of your masterpieces to come out in book form, Missy! Anyway, good job at not getting angry and letting go of the fluff. We all need to do that more often.
