Top Ten--June 2007

We're baaaaaaaack! Time for the monthly top ten. Enjoy! (I certainly did . . . most of it, anyway).

10-My new favorite game. It's called, "What should we name this kid?" Kye's ideas so far have included Paul, John, Alex and, of course, "Mom, we should name the baby Barney . . . and I'm done with my sandwich." Lucy originally liked Michael, which is an improvement over Prince Charming, which is what she wanted to name Isaac . . . but it's still a no go.

9-The 24 hour flu bug that raced through the house just days before our trip to San Diego. It wiped me out so hard I was literally in bed for 24 hours. I stuck the kids in front of the TV in the morning, dragged myself out of bed to make them lunch and put them down for naps before getting back into bed. Zach mercifully came home early so I could continue sleeping. I think I may have gotten up for family prayer, but it's a blur.

8-Trying to recover from the flu the next day while trying to make Zach breakfast in bed for Father's Day, fold laundry for our trip, finish the dishes, clean up grape juice all over the kitchen, from the top of the fridge to under the dishwasher (the kids were trying so hard to "help" with the breakfast), pack all the bags, pack the car, clean up Kye's yarfy on the kitchen floor, and rescue Kye from tourniqueting his finger in the laundry basket. Sigh . . . all in a day's work.

7-Potty training Isaac. Now let me explain . . . I hate potty training. (I mean does anyone REALLY like it? Come on!) But my personal view of Hades is potty training for eternity. But it has actually gone pretty well. Very few accidents . . . as long as I remember to stick him on the potty every few hours, he's good. Niiiiiiiiiiice.

6-Zach . . . sick, sick, sick this month. After a week long cold, the 24 hour flu bug unfortunately attacked him while we were driving to San Diego. Ummmmm, not fun. We had a good break while on vacation, came home and he apparently came down with viral meningitis. All while I told him he's been sick too much and could he PLEASE just get up. Whoops. Guess that'll teach me.

5-Kye: Mom, did you know that your food goes in your mouth, down your neck, into your stomach, down one leg, back up the other, and out your bum?
Me: Actually I did NOT know that. . . but thanks for telling me.

4-Isaac's perfection of the whine. Some kids are born whiny, others acheive it. He's acheived it with gusto. "Moooooooooooom . . . I'n huuuuuuuuuungry!" "Moooooooooooom, Wucy's not giving it to me." "Mooooooooooooom, Kye (insert complaint of choice here . . . took my blanket, took my car, looked at me funny, decided to stand near me, etc. . . )!"

3-The kids new favorite game, which they've called Mama Mia. Lucy's explanation of the rules: We pull back the mattress (which is up against the wall in the basement) and you run behind it before it smashes you. If you get smashed, the boys have to say "Mama Mia" and the girls say "Flower!" If nothing else, it's inventive.

2-Zach and I trying to spend the rest of our medical flex spending account before we lost it July 1. We had $800 to spend in a week on medical expenses. We managed to do it after paying for the ultrasound, sending Zach to the chiropractor, and spending $400 on medicine, first aid kits, a really nice thermometer, and more Band-Aids than one house could possibly need. I’ve always pictured winning a shopping spree. It was kind of like that . . . only not really at all.

1-Our trip to San Diego was the highlight. The kids had a blast playing on the beach with their Bradshaw cousins, going to a beachside amusement park, and swimming in the hotel pool.

Listen here lady...you'd better be done with all sickness by the time you get to SD. I have managed to keep my kids healthy (and very whiny) all summer (our friend kim brought back the flu from UT, but we still managed to avoid it)! Did Kye mention how the food gets from the bottom of one leg over to the other leg to continue on it's way?? I love kids' versions of anatomy and how things work. The other day in the car Maja said, "Mom, I'm congest." "What is congest?" So I explained it and "Yep, I'm congest." We can't wait to see you guys!
