Challenge #1

I am not a decorater--at least not a natural one.  I love to look at pretty rooms.  I love to be in pretty rooms.  I love to see other people's pretty rooms and envision them being directly transported into my own home (with absolutely no effort being placed forth on my part).  Problem is, I like too many styles to actually decide what I'd like mine to be.  However, having recently decided that we'll be in this home for a little bit yet, I figured it was time to actually put forth the effort.  So I've given myself a completely impossible challenge (seeing as how I will inevitably be having a baby in a few months and will most likely be directed to "take it easy" or go on complete bedrest before hand).  But hey, you only live once, right?  So here it is:

(Re)Decorate each room in the house on a budget.  Not too hard, right?

FIRST CHALLENGE--
The mission: Create a "BYU" room for Kye and Isaac (as requested)
The budget: $250
The time: 1 month (Jan. 15-Feb. 14)
The specs: fix all dings/holes, new paint, chair rail, "Y" logo somewhere in the room, new bedding, remove old blinds that don't open, replace with curtains and tension rod, closet/storage overhaul, add some color, and create enough room to move Adam in with his brothers when #5 comes along.

Remember, I am NOT the ultimate crafter (with so many wonderful creators out there to copy, who needs to be anymore?), and it will take me more time/effort to complete simple projects than regular people.  I'm totally okay with that, and ready to go.  So . . . any advice, people?  Specifically those with inborn talents for making rooms look awesome just by walking past them?  (Just kidding--I know it takes effort for everyone.)

Wish me luck.
p.s. We started last Saturday and I would just like to remind everyone that it is somewhat difficult to paint perfect edge lines at the baseboard when one is pregnant and has a belly the size of a small watermelon.  I'm just saying.

I am the same way. I like WAY too many styles and I have bits and pieces resembling each that are thrown together. I amnot good at decorating AT ALL. Good like sounds like a very DO-able challenge! Can't wait to see what it looks like.

I can come help paint. In fact painting parties are a blast! Just say when and where.

You can fly me out to help! We'll have it done in a week (though this will blow your budget:).

I am on the same mission for Jaren's room. One thing I didn't do because I was too lazy and strapped for time was to caulk. Caulking makes the perfect lines, no bleeding. Even along baseboards.

Sabrina does have a huge vinyl letter cutter. I'm sure she could whip out a huge Y for you!

I love painting parties. I've had one and it was a BLAST!!!

First off, your belly is the size of a small cantelope. Secondly, I wish I was there to help. Better yet, why don't KT and I just come out. KT and I are very handy with manual labor, and it will be sooo fun.

I assume with the chair rail you mean some sort of wainscotting? I'd do a white chair rail and white below the line. Navy above the line with a large wooden white BYU Y hung on the wall that's visible from the door. Silver/grey curtains would look nice. Consider a rod across the top instead of a tension rod, they run pretty cheap at target.

In the closet, you could divide it in thirds with narrow, tall shelves or those things that hang from the rod (~$10 at target). The boys can use them for stuff that would go in drawers, and you can even get cubes for socks/underwear. One plastic bin per boy up top could hold off-season items.

GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!!
