Before and After . . . and After That

I got this cheap little laminate bookcase on sale for $10 and decided to dress it up a bit for Lucy's room.  I tried the turquoise spraypaint and didn't love it, because there is so much turquoise in other areas of her room.  I had already painted one shelf before I thought to take a before picture.
BEFORE:
I lightly sanded it, sprayed it heirloom white and added the scrapbook paper behind.  And viola!
AFTER:
Here it is in her room.  It looks much better in the picture than it does with actual books on the shelves because it covers up my awesome paper.  (Yes, I should have put the picture frames lower, but I decided tol look for a few taller things to put on the shelf to balance it out.  Suggestions?)
AFTER THAT:

p.s.  Mindy, those were not my first grey hairs, just the only ones I found that day.

Ikea has cute, tall, thick cream colored candle pedastals. You could try those. Or metal stands to put frames on. Lucy could display her current artwork there.

Such a cute room! If Lucy is anything like Sydney, she'll have that top shelf taken care of before you have time to worry about it. Love the frames!!

I love the bookcase. Good thinking. Hard to go wrong with a lamp.

I'm still sad about that trunk we saw. I think it would have been perfect at the foot of her bed!

All this redecorating must be contagious..The bookshelf looks great. Becca's ideas of candlestick's (for looks only) and a metal plate or book holder would look great...

A short lamp on the left and a framed picture or two of Lucy and her brothers or Lucy and her friends on the right would make a nice top for the bookshelf. Nice work!!
