Derby for Divas

For our Relief Society additional meeting this month, we had a mother/daughter Diva Derby.  Lucy and I designed a ruby slipper car and did (almost) all of it ourselves.  (After breaking two scroll saw blades, my friend's hubby came out, gave me a look of deepest sympathy at my ineptitude, and cut out the last piece.  Which was totally cheating because the only rule was that men couldn't touch the cars.)  It was a good thing, though, becuase it would have taken me another hour to finish.  I promise I know how to use power tools, just not the wimpy ones like scroll saws.  Anyway, after cutting, sanding, painting, and glittering, we went to the Diva Derby.

The mom, the daughter, and the car:

The derby was also a carnival with cotton candy, cookie decorating, face painting, and a picture guessing game (moms brought pics of themselves as kids and you had to guess who it was):
 Oh, and a photo "booth":
 We had a blast.
As we have no previous derby car experience, we didn't add weights and our car won exactly zero times.  But we had fun.

p.s. Amberlyn, remember how we were talking about junior high pictures and how they should all be burned?

 p.p.s. Beat THAT!

Awesome ruby slipper car!! And Lucy & Maja have the same facial expressions... As for the jr high pic, clearly you did not learn. After 5th grade, I stopped wearing glasses in my school pics. (Though there was the unfortunate boy haircut of 7th grade, thanks Becca!)

That activity is awesome & if I ever am in charge of achievement days or YW I'm positively using that idea. As for the picture I am laughing... not to loud bc I don't want to wake MK... but out loud! Who would have ever thought... I might print that & a current picture of you off to encourage my girls someday when they struggle in junior high. You're an inspiration to us all! :)

I feel the Diva Derby was discriminatory to those of us sans daughters! JK. I didn't care. I have two pinewood derby cars to make in Sept which I gladly pass on to my hubs. LOVE the Jr. High photo!
